Synopsis

In Ireland, there’s an antidote to the dark times we live in—a worn and weathered boarding school with a special magic. At the heart of it is a bemused elderly couple, John and Amanda, who have taught with equal parts seriousness and silliness for nearly 50 years. Reading! ‘Riting! Rock ’n’ roll!

Our take

The classroom can open a window on what society values most, and never more so than in this endearing documentary by the Irish filmmaking duo Neasa Ní Chianáin and David Rane. Imagine if Frederick Wiseman filmed an inspiring boarding school in Ireland, and you’re halfway there.
