better than planet earth... better than breakfast.

  4. Fact Robot's rating of the film Science Is Fiction: 23 Films by Jean Painlevé

I do not compute how this title is accurate. The paradox of science being a fiction is either false or a metaphor, therefore irrelevant.

  5. IronTonic's rating of the film Science Is Fiction: 23 Films by Jean Painlevé

So damn beautiful and I love the original audio tracks just as much as the new "sounds of science" tracks.

  6. César's rating of the film Science Is Fiction: 23 Films by Jean Painlevé

Utterly fascinating collection of short films whose main purpose is to inform on the life of animals as diverse as the sea urchin or the vampire bat. Underlying this noble motive is also the need to awe with great visuals and comment on society's norms. The *Sounds of Science* supplement is particularly great since it adds another layer of fantasy to the films.

  7. REH1101's rating of the film Science Is Fiction: 23 Films by Jean Painlevé

You can keep your "Planet Earth" dvd set. We know about something better! With the release of this and "by Brakhage: An Anthology," Criterion has outdone themselves while providing another great service to enthusiasts of obscure cinema. Between the mesmerizing textures, rhythms, and structures only comparable to musical composition, they are easily the most overlooked and sublime releases from company.
