30 hand picked films. A new one every day
Ah, young love.
Pessimisme et naturalisme scandinaves. Excellent !
Proletariat romance, chain smokes, frustrating reluctance, the friendship between Nikander and Melartin, and small potatoes. Small potatoes make me happy.
This is my dream film, actually.
A good introduction to the work of Aki Kaurismaki, a true original with a bent for unique faces. First in the trilogy focused on workers.
Yine kaybedenli, az diyaloglu, duygusu sahici, sigarası radyosu eksik olmayan bir aki kaurismaki filmiydi.
The scene depicting the black dog running over the puddle of water, following Nikander's co-worker's heart attack, is just so Tarkovskian.
"The supermarket is a merciless machine."
small potatoes is the new yolo.
Almost positive that I'll be saying "small potatoes" for the rest of my life now.
With seeming effortlessness and simplicity, this film is a sweet, cockeyed gem.

DIR Aki Kaurismäki
SCR Aki Kaurismäki
I can not explain why I love Aki Kaurismäki's films, but the nuanced subtlety is beautiful.
Even if I'd hate Cinema one day, I'll always love this film.
"The kind of doctor I need hasn't been born yet."
nothing i can say could be as elegant as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DSVDcw6iW8
Has a lot of the same elements as his The Man Without a Past, but is much more convincing and fun. A more simple and homble scandinavian Jarmush indeed.
Like a Finnish Jim Jarmusch. Shares a lot with Stranger than Paradise, though with color and faster editing despite similar pace and nuance.
