New York City police detective John Shaft (nephew of the original 1970s detective) goes on a personal mission to make sure the son of a real estate tycoon is brought to justice after a racially-motivated murder.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what's now showing
Samuel L. Jackson appear as the new Shaft, actually the nephew of the original Shaft (Roundtree) who also appear in a small role. Jackson is not a sex machine though, but still fight for injustice as he stop mean, slimy racist bastards. Some inspired humor and the update of the title song works, but the subplot with a drug ring don't work well and the film lacks everything that made the genre cool in the 1970s.
5 stars?!?! You goddamn right. Bale is amazing and hilarious as the white cracker ass villain and if that wasn't enough here's Jeff wright killing it as a Dominican? Gangster...I mean embarrassment of riches. Great lil NY crime flick too. Sam Jackson dnt play
