Quite a dark film for Jackie Chan, also considerably less action oriented. A gang film once again proving that violence escalates into more violence. While there are a few weak moments in the film it holds together well, Jackie Chan's character has a fair bit of depth to him and is well portrayed.
Jackie Chan admirably acts more here than he performs action stunts. However, Shinjuku Incident is hit and miss, as it spreads itself thin with too much plot and characters while the direction is bombastic and clumsy in its over-stylization at times. Yet, it's most interesting when it depicts Chan's character as hypocritical in his morality. He kills to get where he is, but acts like he is above his crime syndicate.
