Synopsis

The venereologist Dr. Georg Mauthner loses his bride to a man about town, the painter Paul Hartwig, who is infected with syphilis, but does not want to be treated. Hartwig escapes instead into drugs, decays mentally and physically, and eventually goes miserable.
