Critics reviews

It’s something of a mixed bag but comes off in the end as a powerful rendition of Endo’s novel, as well as an effective piece of cinema in line with Shinoda’s prior works. Working for the first time with Rashomon cinematographer Kazuo Miyagawa, the film captures wild and gorgeous locations for the story.
