Silent Retreat features good acting by its two-layered female leads, as well as a wonderfully creepy performance by Robert Nolan. The film's use of silence is quite unique, yet is not so overbearing as to be gimmicky. It also has a meaning behind it: the persecution of women by men who want women to be submissive. Its faults lie in its creature that is unneeded and the unpolished editing in some action scenes.
