I really wanted to like this. The house, wardrobe and decor are gorgeous and the noir lighting setups are incredible but the characters' mannerisms were annoying and the film tries way too hard to be shocking and 'morbidly funny.' Juraj Herz is much better at this kind of thing. Watch Morgiana or Nightmares instead.
I watched half of it (and wasn't really paying much attention) and only finished it a whole day later, so I think I might be missing something that the ending hinted at. I need to watch it again. as it stands, the sex scenes felt absurd just for the sake of it - I didn't find it as comedic as the director might have intended them to be. I did find "Laura" to be very charming, though, despite everything.
Plotwise, Singapore Sling is to Sophrosyne what Hildegard von Bingen is to Bukowski's Women (in reversed order) but excess disregarding, it's marked by that self-contained, gratuitous, controlled and consummate showoff of sports events: it exists for no other reason than being able to, and don't let the "Telos" card concluding this bilingual movie cast an allegoric doubt: it stands for End and not a piddling Purpose.
