35mm. Cronenberg once said something to the effect of "It doesn't matter if a character is 'likeable' or not, as long as that character is interesting." Nobody in this film is likeable but in a way that's what makes the film interesting as a critique of a specific time and place.

+ 1 star because i love that kinda flicks, story itself isn't that good - also soundtrack could be better.

  6. The Mayor Of Hell's rating of the film Smithereens

Not very good. Definitely a first feature. Maybe it's more influential then It seems but to me it's just a low budget meandering mess with a highly unlikeable central character. Richard hell looks good but can't act. Always love the the 80s aesthetic and old east village NYC.
