Brian De Palma United States, 1998

Lights in the Dusk's rating of the film Snake Eyes

One of De Palma's most fascinating and energetic meditations on the power of 'the image' (and a clear precursor to his later work Redacted). Cameras are everywhere here, recording events (which become accusations), creating images that are used and manipulated in an attempt to find the truth. The result is a (near) 21st century riposte to Rear Window, or another (!) homage to the central themes of Blow-Up.
