Two young farm workers, who like millions of others, leave their village to seek their fortunes in the city. Each chose a vastly different path to make it and become embroiled in misunderstandings, gangster brawls and police raids.

Some moments of glow (as the frames in open spaces and crowds, the reflection of the face of the boy in the wall of his bedroom at night) will not disguise something very clear: this is a film that follows several clichés and standard situations without finding a language of its own. Wong-Kar-wai and a jaded history of gangs overlap the film, and its narrativity is an absolute commonplace.
A gritty rendition of a Chinese film noir, complete with a strange love triangle and the cities seedy elements. The story is simple, but it is elevated by cultural context, brief glimpses of visual storytelling prowess and a tender ending.
