Ratings & Reviews

  1. Noli Manaig's rating of the film Sociology is a Martial Art

Pierre Bourdieu: Pas Dieu! This iconoclasm echoes at one point of this documentary: The disgruntlement felt by many with the preeminent sociologist & his profession. Touché? Bourdieu acts like a lightning rod here, upholding sociology despite its spiral into disrepute, invoked as rationale by repressive politics. From his neutral, non-committal role in the academe, a nascent stirring for active agitation.

  2. Aivaras_Z's rating of the film Sociology is a Martial Art

"I often say that sociology is a martial art, a means of self-defense. Basically, you use it to defend yourself, without having the right to use it for unfair attacks", says Bourdieu at one point. Fits quite well for the culmination of the film where the star himself confronts the angry and disenfranchised and allows the viewer a glimpse into the life of one of the most important sociologists of our time.

  3. -REM-'s rating of the film Sociology is a Martial Art

  4. Marc St-Cyr (Death cinéphilia)'s rating of the film Sociology is a Martial Art

Bourdieu is probably the most important intellectual figure of the late 20th century (for me), that i've never read (i tried « La distinction » but i quickly dropped it)

  5. Roberto Carlos's rating of the film Sociology is a Martial Art

  6. Ostermyers's rating of the film Sociology is a Martial Art
