  2. Dan Kenneth Gigernes's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

The best epic Dutch WWII movie ever made about the occupation, the collaborators and those who fought back. Hauer/Krabbe/DeLint is a Dutch acting trio made in heaven. Phenomenally shot and the story engages from beginning to end. I find this film impossible to hate and why should I?

  3. lesminho's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

  4. Ethan's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

This is a great war epic that shows the dangers that one has to endure during an occupation and the bravery needed to take your country back from the bastards that wanted to claim it as their own. Rutger Hauer is a total badass here.

  5. FISCHER's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

Réaliste au possible, intense et précis, une oeuvre estimable... www.cinefiches.com

  6. Richmond Hill's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

Standard wartime episodes occasionally spiked by Verhoeven's midriff view of the world (almost vignettes of Ken Russellisms amid the conventionality here). Never less than competent but rarely more than Sunday evening in front of the television; too long for certain.

  7. Ale/M's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

  8. josé neves's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

Do we have to, at the expense of a struggling "politique des auteurs", consider this unimpressive telefilm a masterpiece?

  9. ode_to_joy_film's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

One of the early works of Paul Verhoeven..want to watch this.

  10. Jeremy Ashlyn's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

This is one confident movie. And a nice prelude to 'Black Book' one of my absolute favourite films. Shades of Inglourious Basterds.

  11. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

Paul Verhoeven's offbeat World War II epic avoids being a stodgy historical exercise with a bold streak of raucous, youthful energy. The broad scope and weighty running time can be cumbersome at times, but its a strong and stylish film, full of memorable moments and a fresh take on the historical epic. Great score by Rogier van Otterloo.

  12. Duncan Gray's rating of the film Soldier of Orange

A strangely off-kilter film, pitched halfway between aspirations of a serious WWII epic and an adolescent desire to fit in as many squibs and boobs as possible. Still, you can't deny Verhoeven's skill as a filmmaker: the way he uses the camera to tell a story is dynamic, fluid, and controlled in ways that Kurosawa should be proud of.
