The fear of sexual abuse in the prison makes young guy to cooperate by force with "real" criminals. This brings him deeper into the shit. Love story, robbery, action; all in. Solid action movie. Starting point for this charismatic "boy". From 26 y/o Brenton Thwaites probably more to come throughout his career.
The dusty debut from acclaimed short film director Julius Avery only slightly disappointed. As expected, this crime thriller delivered slick action sequences with mostly-good performances. The plot wears quite thin at times, but there's enough machismo to keep you interested. The soundtrack was haunting and beautiful (and an immediate purchase) as I've come to expect from Kurzel. Non-essential, but worth the watch.
The sturdy direction and very well realised action sequences aren't enough to save this film from it's run of the mill, worn out plot line, clichéd characters, fake accents and heavy handed score. Unfortunately it's firmly in the realm of the easily forgettable. 2 stars
