Jealousy flares in a small Kazakh village when a Russian woman’s baby is born with dark skin, raising suspicions — mainly with the woman’s angry husband, Ivan — that the child was fathered by her Kazakh neighbor.

It's a fine, handsome film of no great ambitions and a nice sense of humor (including a good punchline to wrap) that gently mocks its characters' insistence on the superiority of their race. Just after WWII there was no small amount of Russians in Central Asia: a blonde woman with blonde husband gives birth to a suspiciously Asiatic-looking babe. He's irate, blames the Kazakh neighbor, and a 15 year-long feud ensues.
