Strong performance and a good basic premise make Sam Fleischner's new film one worth seeking out. Story may become a little strong handed and hackneyed at points but the basic idea of a young autistic boy wandering into the subway system in Queens and beginning an eleven day journey riding the rails while his family look for him is a compelling one. Jesus Sanchez-Velez is quite good as is Andrea Suarez Paz.
There's a lot going on in Sam Fleischner's deceptively simple film, which plunges us into the world of an autistic child as we follow him on his journey though the subways of NYC. Aesthetically bold, layered with themes of immigration, education, mental illness, & where all these things intersect in a strangely beautiful world of one boy's quest to find himself before impending disaster, both real and metaphorical.
