A dour journey on the underworld of two Danish brothers trying to not get better. It's almost too much mysery, but Vinterberg knows the secret to modulate (something that Iñárritu lacks). SUBMARINO is one of Vinterberg best films to date, and one that I keeps revisiting.
Submarino portrays the cold and harsh reality of the life of lost pepole, embedded in a rotten fake society that uses them and erodes them over time. Thomas Vinterberg proves once again that he is one of the best storytellers of his generation, and one of the best directors portraying harsh coming of age stories.
Love Vinterberg! Great directing, great performances. Emotionally intense, though in a completely different pace and narrative style. It´s hard not to compare, considering Festen set the bar way too high, (for all movies, in my view, not just his own body of work). Submarino stands very well on its own though, great movie.
