Above all, this movie frustrates me. It has so many rich elements - the autumnal cinematography, the dense atmosphere and a melancholy that momentously lights up - but it's constantly restrained, ending up with too much of unexplored potential. This could've been a chilling supernatural tale about loneliness.
Really liked this slow burn gothic chiller. The two first reels set upp things quite good but it is in the third reel wehere everything comes together. In my opinion most movies fail in the third reel but this one didn't which was great. The production design, photo, sound and score was up to par and the acting was solid. Sure, the writing could have been a bit more polished but I'm nitpicking. See this film!
Now how to put it politely? The fact that this film lacks in everything (expect female beauty), that it fails to engage the viewer so that he would give a shit about what happens to Adele, that the scenes lack the tension to carry the story further, that making a pastiche is in itself not reason enough to make a film filled with the most conventional clichés. There, I said it.
