  5. Sylvia Batycka's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

It is so hard to gather thoughts as soon as the movie ends, as it evokes so many different feelings. Certainly can recommend this film to everyone, plus one of the best soundtracks ever.

  6. nein's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

When nothing happens you can observe this world you don't know. And I cared for this experience of a travel nature more than what happened to a girl.

  7. msmichel's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

Quite wonderful picture from Senegal that pits traditional village customs against the will of a young woman determined to save her sister from an arranged marriage to pay the family debts. Dior Ma is quite the find as the determined girl and the naturalistic script and settings is quite universal. The calmness and tranquility are interestingly at odds with the inner turmoil of the young characters. Excellent.

  8. Lorna Singh's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

It doesn't take a stand between traditional values and human rights ,it just tells the sad story. Moving, believable performances from the two young actresses, who had not acted before.

  9. Beatrice's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

    Full of grace and dignity.

  10. Sthirabandhu's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

a simple tale yet affecting. an example of how a lack of education and a broader understanding holds people back, stuck in traditions that don't help anyone, sell your daughter, a mere child. the older daughter and the son were so willing to take responsibility yet the father gives his responsibility to a non existent deity.

  11. Sin título.'s rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

Una historia que deja muy en claro cómo funciona el orden social legítimo. Una historia que logra, de manera legítima, atraer la atención del espectador con cada cuadro mientras encadena ideas de esperanza, trabajo, sumisión y respeto por las tradiciones.

  12. Lexi Bass's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

Beautiful music, friendship and desire. Sad but hopeful.

  13. Nathan Johnson's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

A beautifully shot, beautifully paced film that appreciates Senegalese village life and culture, but ultimately can't accept its continuance.

  18. Steve G.'s rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

Delightful little drama. One or two of the performances might not hit the right notes, but it's a simple tale subtly told and a great advert for west African cinema.

  19. Carla Griffin's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

Definitely, this film transports me to some place else! A bitter sweet story but that's culture.

  22. Krister Romundstad Hopen's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

A drama which could easily be overstated and morally driven is instead told compassionatly. A well-shot film with credible characters showing a beautiful world with a terrible crutch.

  24. kate.semple@gmail.com's rating of the film Tall as the Baobab Tree

Having spent a couple of years living in a village in W.Africa I found this a wonderfully honest and accurate depiction of life there. It felt very familiar and I thoroughly enjoyed it, the cultural dilemmas of the traditional meeting the modern continue.
