Ratings & Reviews

  1. Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film Tchaikovsky

Episodic, impressionistic artist biopic that's quite a bit better than most, which seldom display much artistry. Since it's a Soviet film, the character trait of the composer that would be any current biopic's sole raison d'être goes unmentioned. The filmmakers know what's important: the music, the struggle. And in its 2.5 hours it accumulates a quiet power that culminates in those affecting wordless final minutes.
