"They move in herds, they DO move in herds" *cue Jurassic Park theme* applied to the marijuana plantation was pure genius. A darn shame the rest is a sub sub sub sub sup par weak-ish episode of either Family Guy or American Dad. Not sure Film is your medium Seth.
Way better than the first one, beautiful Hollywood classic opening. Falls a bit off in the second part, introduction to the feminine character is really expedited and acquired. Some definitely epic scenes and quotes.
Typical Seth MacFarlane in that it hits and misses quite a bit and throws a lot of stuff at the audience, ostensibly crossing its fingers that it's working. There are bits here that don't work, like the sperm bank, Amanda Seyfried singing, and the repeated "black cocks" joke, but when the film is centered on character chemistry and downright absurdity (Tammie Lynn and Ted's first big fight), then it's hilarious.
Here is the name of Seth Macfarlane's game: sexism, racism, homophobia, ableism, whorish product placement, and pretty much any unfunny, shitty joke that appeals to anyone who falls into the lowest common denominator. It is everything I hate about modern day culture in one film and it infuriates me that people find this shit funny. If I could destroy or put a cap on this garbage, I would gladly do it.
It is just me or MacFarlane is getting some skills at directing? There were some very pretty scenes here. And the musical montages? Regardless, it's a perfectly competent comedy. Some jokes miss, most hit, we had fun. Fuck the haters.
Why so many stars you are wondering?? Definetly not for the film as artistic object but for the film as a cinema experience which is also extremely important. All i have to say is it makes me laugh more often than most and it could be just a guilty pleasure and i am sure it is a guilty pleasure but such a good one... This is also cinema!
