Ratings & Reviews

  1. Daniel Roque's rating of the film Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak

As a fan of Sendak's work, it's not hard to fall in love with the artist himself. This short documentary accompanies the last years of Maurice Sendak - his childhood memories, his relationship with his brothers and his lifetime partner, and the role of death while growing up. Whether you're into children illustration or not, this is inspiring to say the least.

  2. A.B. II: The Return's rating of the film Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak

It's the second straight documentary I've seen ("A Liar's Autobiography" being the other) where it's shorter-than-average running time means skimming over areas that deserve more elaboration. But, unlike "Autobiography", what Jonze does not give us in quantity, he makes up for in quality. It's a personal, affectionate, and penetrating look at a fascinating human being. It was a joy to watch, and I wanted more.
