  • dionysus67's rating of the film Ten Thousand Days

In Jancsó territory minus the stylized acting and the long takes this is a poetic saga composed of fluid transitions across eras of Hungarian history (mostly violent). It features extraordinary long shots that minimize human subjects, taken horizontally or from high angles. Acted with sensitivity, it has an amazing geometry while its beautiful plasticity adds to the pain and melancholy of life's travails in history.

  • Noli Manaig's rating of the film Ten Thousand Days

Who took after whom is unclear, but the tonality is redolent of Jancso, a coeval, & Tarr, who was a young Turk then. If history anticipates the supersession of capitalism, Kosa posits a supposed antipode just as flawed & excessive, belying a utopian telos & an ideal mode of production. This socialist transition is couched in a sense of weariness, portending a world as fraught as what it seeks to overthrow.
