Was more moved by this than I expected to be. It still has its problems, as it's a heavily theatrical display of problem solving and manages to make it's unbelievably true story seem cliche at times, but it's honestly much more entertaining than I expected it to be. You almost can't help but feel some sort of relief or enthusiasm when they're finally rescued.
Look past the fake male-bonding and Hollywood-repurposed English (Chileans cannot speak Spanish?) and there's much to enjoy in THE 33, another harmless entry in the perennial Triumph of the Human Spirit series. Patricia Riggen competently directs an ensemble of actors including the great Juliette Binoche, while d.p Checco Varese makes 1700ft below earth look strangely...pretty. Last Supper scene was a nice touch.
