An arousing balance of bold literary formulations and visual intoxication shot before WWI, from the city tram to the park to the apartment interiors, to the bucolic country resort, and even onto the circus and stage, it all bespeaks sympathetic backgrounds in sync with the story's actions of desire, sexuality and the fickle heart's appointment with rage. Was this 40 minute feature really 1910? Shooting production
This is one hell of a masterpiece for such an early era of cinema. It is a cinematically and artistically superb film with some advanced camera work (a bit of close-ups, some tracking shots (rare in that period) etc.) , restricted acting by the great Asta Nielsen (how amazing is the fact that this was her debut film?) , well developed story and NO happy ending! That's why I LOVE Danish films.
