A very unsatisfying international coproduction genre movie, with a British, French and Spanish cast. This takes the bare bones of seventies exploitation fare like STRAW DOGS and THE HILLS HAVE EYES and makes a very bland and predictable Spanish-set throwback film. Gary Oldman is reasonable as the Brit-Spaniard coming home, but the likes of Considine and Ledoyen are hopelessly adrift in underwritten roles.
A study of disorientation and the escalation of fear when these outsiders and villagers meet. The key incident is what the girl does at the end; clearly the outsiders have somewhat misunderstood what they've walked into (even though you'd have done the same as them); and throughout the hunt the villagers are afraid too, coarse & criminal as they are: they're not sure how to play it either.
Quite an effective thriller, definitely worth a watch. I liked the realistic relationships in this context. Good soundtrack, photography, location and I'm a fan Oldman and Considine. Subtitles are on now, I just emailed support, simple really, can't understand why anyone would review a film if you can't understand half of it, not fair on the film is it?
