Ratings & Reviews

  1. Sean Patrick Stevens's rating of the film The Believers

Watchable Schlesinger b-movie exercise that doesn't really come together. Either the acting is wildly over the top or the contrivances (or both) prevented me from getting into it completely.

  2. Howard Orr's rating of the film The Believers

A kind of crude, sensationalist take on voodoo, as if Schlesinger was trying to meld the post-Omen paranoid thriller with the duh-duh-duh feel of a '30s Universal horror movie (Karloff as the voodoo priest in dodgy blackface, Colin Clive in one of those explorer hats playing the role of the hero?). Just plain dumb.

  3. Nelson Núñez's rating of the film The Believers

Un thriller mediocre que mueve a la risa involuntaria (esa mujer que muere electrocutada al comienzo o Jimmy Smits gritando "Culebra" mientras se sostiene la barriga) Viniendo de John Schlesinger la decepción es doble.

  4. A:A's rating of the film The Believers

To clarify the IMDB synopsis - this movie's "evil" centers on Santeria, not Vodou; and surprisingly, it makes the distinction. A mildly interesting horror movie, but an abhorrent representation of Afro-Caribbean religion.
