Friar Bacon? Surely you jest, Henry.

  2. Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film The Black Rose

Despite Tyrone Power, the sore at the center of almost every movie he's in - here as the only Englishman with an American accent (when he gets angry and shouts "I'm a Saxon, and I'll not live under the rule of Norman dogs!" I see a London cinema audience in 1950 cringing) - this is close to top-tier for this kind of hokum. The slack of Power is taken up by Welles, relishing his barbarian warlord role tremendously.
