Garin Nugroho's searing film "Mata Tertutup”, literally meaning "closed eyes," weaves together three stories of youth struggling under the outlawed Indonesian Islamic State and emergent manifestations of radical Islam. The film's anonymous setting deliberately casts a wide net, expressing a simmering nation-wide issue. Shot in amber low light, The Blindfold burns with a fresh immediacy and authenticity.
thanks God, Garin took this project and not someone else. His directing is precise, somewhat poetic in the characters ' movement and his observations are thorough. An eye opening processes into the mind of the people who were involved in the act of terrorism, or its effects on the surrounding.
