Ratings & Reviews

  1. Balthaz21's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

  2. Wee Hunk's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

This is a better ending than Chandler's first idea, though it does rely on that whole 'confront the murderer who immediately confesses' crap. Makes for a tidier ending I suppose. The chemistry between Ladd and Lake is good as always, though putting them together this way was a bit contrived.

  3. Edna Sweetlove's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

A good noir but spoiled by the awful William Bendix and his rabbitting on about monkey music, especially since it was not even rap.

  4. Ozu_Teapot's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

  5. Aaken's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

The least compelling of the Ladd/Lake vehicles. Chandler's script saves the day, with some very nice dialogues, Marshall's direction lacks the flair of his contemporaries Huston, Lang or Siodmak... Veronica Lake's role isn't a central one but she brings sensitivity to her scenes with Ladd. William Bendix's character should have been the main one... But it is very watchable, though not the best of its kind.

  6. bulgrin's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

Would rather give a 3.5 because of the clever script. Nice entertainment though.

  7. SpacePirate's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

Would've almost been a dud if not for Chandlers script and Bendix's scene stealing performance. Dont see much in terms of the famed Ladd/Lake chemistry. I think the studio just paired them up bc they were somewhat close in height (she was only 4'11in). The direction is pretty uninspired, but one fun thing about this film is an early Hugh Beaumont sighting, of Leave It To Beaver fame. 3 stars, dont expect too much tho

  8. Aardsy's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

I guess that's one way to end a movie.

  9. Greg's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

Raymond Chandler's script is engaging and clever. Did he really insist on directing a number of scenes himself?

  10. samskeyti's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

  11. Dave's rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

The always-reliable William Bendix steals the spotlight from the famed Ladd-Lake pairing. And underrated noir, in my opinion.

  12. Daniel S.'s rating of the film The Blue Dahlia

**1/2 Recommended because of Raymond Chandler’s screenplay only. George Marshall’s direction is unfortunately very poor. Nonetheless, it could have been a wonderful Film Noir.
