  1. Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film The Blue Mountains: Part 1

In an all-girls school in postwar Japan students - who represent lingering feudalistic tendencies - harass a new girl who's been seen outside school with a boy. She and the teacher who defend her are the film's symbols of progress and enlightenment, see? It's about as schematic and dull as it sounds, except that Hara Setsuko and Kuga Yoshiko are there to save it from itself as best they can.
