One of the damnedest movies to be released this, or any other, year, The Book of Henry is a well-acted but surprisingly loony movie about a mother who capitalizes on her son's dying wish to murder their allegedly abusive neighbor. Plagued by plot-holes, unbelievably awkward moments, and a misrepresented theme, the comic value of such a perplexing film marginally outweighs the contempt it had potential to inspire.
Every decade or so comes a film so morally repugnant careers die with the record scratch sound bite. Here, its not really because Sarah Silverman kisses an underage boy, although that will resurface in my nightmares. It’s that it worships psychological and perhaps physical pedophilia as a fairy tale redemption for adults. After a film like this, you take the creators’ camera away and block their cell phone contacts.
I really really do NOT get the hate for this film? Public and the critical community seem to hate it for some unknown reason other than he was set to direct a stars wars film. Well that was taken from him. This is a nice story about a precocious genius child. He’s a genuis because he has a tumor in his brain but still. He then cooks up an elaborate plan to kill someone. I would have loved this as a kid
« The Book of Henry » est une belle leçon d’humanité sur la nature humaine, les parents imparfaits, la dépression, la beauté et la cruauté du monde de l’enfance. Naomi Watts est vraiment une superbe actrice, sa maîtrise des émotions sur le long terme (1h45) est juste hallucinant. Les jeunes acteurs sont également géniaux. Les mélodrames de qualité sortant au cinéma étant extrêmement rare, je vous le recommande.
Besides the plot holes and a few numb moments,i found this movie quite ok because i have huge love for Naomi Watts and for that kid Jaeden Lieberher.I also mention Jacob Tremblay and Maddie Ziegler, great kids as well.
For me all those problems were all erased to almost 0 just because was fun watching those prodigy kids.
The first act is good, very emotional and funny sometimes. The ending could have been better.
