Ratings & Reviews

  1. Mathias Palmberg's rating of the film The Call of Cthulhu

Really liked this one. Saw this at a Lovecraft convention with the filmmakers in attendance for a Q and A a couple of years ago. A respectful take on Lovecraft's classic that is filled with ingenuity and passion for filmmaking. Well worth checking out even if you're not a Lovecraft fan.

  2. Log Lady's rating of the film The Call of Cthulhu

A beautifully made tribute to silent film. The murky black and white fits the overall mood, nods to German Expressionism are great, the ending is intense, and the stop motion moment pure gold. Too bad I'm not a fan of Lovecraft and the structure of his story.

  3. drnuttall's rating of the film The Call of Cthulhu

lovely translation of the well known lovecraft tale.

  4. AKFilmFan's rating of the film The Call of Cthulhu

It captures the look of a 1920's sci-fi thriller quite well and the imagery is striking but the narrative is clumsy with flashbacks upon flashbacks (which is like the short story but doesn't translate to film quite well enough).

  6. Chase's rating of the film The Call of Cthulhu

Great rendtion of the story. They really made this look, and feel, like a classic horror film from the '20s. Not amazing, but a definite favorite in Lovecraft films.
