Psychological/ghost horror stories that rely on final-act twists, and not how the metaphysical connects to the earthbound are doomed to fail. The Canal is one such film, forsaking the connection of the deterioration of its character's sanity and unacknowledged metaphorical trappings of ghost stories for generic turns in this rote blend of 2 well-worn sub genres.
This was barely OK. As far as psychological thrillers go with story twists this was pretty lame considering. A lot of things on display here are quite good but it´s a shame that neither the script nor direction hold up.
