I need to see again as the seamless sweep of Vidor and these actors' characterizations is uncanny. Vidor's camera always longs to know and learn something about these people, their grouping within this milieu, their sympathy, comfort, failings. A series of vignettes revealing a world, a way of life that cannot sustain itself. Yes, as with Chaplin, motion is emotion. Movement reveals these people, sustains them.
