A lot of spectacular costumes and space ships and in some way it could be seen as a intergalactic Conan movie with a barbarian warrior fighting monsters, crazy priests and kings and having scantly dressed girls around him. Disappointingly all other characters are either underdeveloped or get killed off when introduced making this all a movie for those who adore Vin Diesel and not so much about anyone else.
Taking inspiration from Flash Gordon, Dune and even a hint of Moebius, TCOR is a very ambitious film with great sets and costumes however it plays out very much like two separate films smushed together to make the very first Sci-Fi 'Carry on" film. Who the hell is EVERYONE in this movie aside from Vin Diesel?
Extended version. The second entry is an over ambitious sci-fi epic that crumbles under its own hubris eventually. Some interesting ideas and some stunning visuals overrun by a story that doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Diesel is pretty much a one man show here regardless of the 'name' actors who must have collected bigger salaries than their norm for appearing here (talking to you Colm Feore)). Not a complete waste.
