Ratings & Reviews

  1. Alex Flores's rating of the film The Comedian

This is not precisely an art film or high brow kind of movie. However, I found it pleasantly entertaining and well acted. A fantastic cast, neon-esque photography and cringing but funny moments.

  2. paul_quixote's rating of the film The Comedian

The sequence of events that brings DeNiro and Mann together is painfully contrived. Things become more organic, but never fully gel. Most of the bit characters were horribly written. When DeNiro does stand-up there's a strange tension. This is an ode to dirty jokes that asserts even the nastiest, most profane shit, is beautiful. Mann & Falco are great, movie would've been wise to focus on their characters more. Alas.

  3. Ulrich JARLØV's rating of the film The Comedian

Leslie Mann was a lovely surprise, but the movie's tragically unfunny.

  4. Sean Patrick Stevens's rating of the film The Comedian

A good excuse to see Keitel and DeNiro reunite but dramedies concerning comedians have done better elsewhere.

  5. Steve Pulaski's rating of the film The Comedian

Similar in premise and tone to Danny Collins and about on the same level of quality despite being disproportionately more comedic, The Comedian boldly sticks to its guns and never descends into mawkish territory. Just when the romance between a very good Robert De Niro and a great Leslie Mann has the chance to traverse sentimental territory, it zigs and creates a more complex character portrait. Very fun stuff.

  6. Joe Hackman's rating of the film The Comedian

It's a tragic waste of some of the best performances of last year. Danny DeVito, Patti LuPone, and (especially) Leslie Mann are all so perfect but the script is too meandering to channel their efforts into something worthwhile.
