Our take

Never had Ireland been depicted in film with such success before this cult classic! A riotous energy flows through Alan Parker’s Roddy Doyle adaptation set in working-class Dublin. The exceptional—mostly non-professional!—cast of musicians give the live performances an authentic, exhilarating feel.
