El crimen del Padre Amaro

Carlos Carrera Mexico, 2002

Nicholas Gregory's rating of the film The Crime of Padre Amaro

Its main problem is both the lack of a sturdy gravitas and dimensional humanity in its oftentimes Cliffnotes-like sketch of its characters that feel like they are nothing more than talking heads for the filmmakers views rather than human beings. Therefore, this anti-organized religion film proselytizes to the already unconverted choir-- like myself-- rather than opening others' minds to its rabble-roused preaching.
