Pretty awesome Stephen King adaptation. Directed by George Romero but could almost be mistaken for the work of David Lynch. The movie poster looks like Bruce Campbell who is not in the movie. Timothy Hutton is in the movie but the role seems made for Michael Keaton.
THE DARK HALF is schizophrenic: when it's good, it's really really good. Pity that Stephen King's source material (hero is a novelist AND a teacher!) is unusually limited. So Romero instead targets Tim Hutton's George Stark whose feral machismo is both scary and fun to watch! Hitchcockian set pieces and body horror are nicely done. A potentially great idea about sparrows leads to a cliché ending. Fascinating failure.
