FIRE & STONE: Maureen O'HARA & Brian KEITH. A spaghetti western before the spaghetti westerns, signed PECKINPAH the precursor. A few outbursts of violence unfortunately softened by rivers of syrup & soap. == Un western spaghetti avant les westerns spaghetti, signé PECKINPAH le précurseur. Quelques éclats de violence malheureusement affadis par des rivières de sentiments sirupeux. La pierre & le feu: KEITH & O'HARA.
Peckinpah's debut was a by the numbers studio entry that really failed to show his affinity for the genre that would become apparent soon enough. Keith and O'Hara offer nothing beyond stock with even less given by a weak supporting cast. Hard to believe he would go on from this to make some of the best westerns of all time.
Wow ! I recently found, at last, a decent copy of this western and I don’t regret now to have waited so long to see this first Sam Peckinpah effort. The journey through the Arizona desert of these two characters wounded by life is a superb journey through guiltiness. Masterpiece.
