Ratings & Reviews

  1. Ozu_Teapot's rating of the film The Debussy Film

  2. Patrick Sheard's rating of the film The Debussy Film

A compelling portrait of a composer, consumed by his art.

  3. Publius's rating of the film The Debussy Film

  4. DK's rating of the film The Debussy Film

Made for BBC TV but as good as any of Ken Russell's best. A precursor to Pinter's framing device in The French Lieutenant's Woman, but swinging sixties style.

  5. Richmond Hill's rating of the film The Debussy Film

Pre-Post Modern musings on the lot of the artist framed in the now familiar film-within-a-film device of a film crew tackling the subject matter with all cross-referential and 'art v. life' similarities you could wish for. As ever some superbly realised meldings of music and visual metaphor, which is suitably lyrical – thankfully given Russell's increasingly tub-thumping elephant charging tendencies at this time.
