Overworked and underpaid, a forty-something mother of three is driven to abandon her senile father so she can take better care of her children, in this drama from director Rodrigo Plá (La zona Revolución).
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what’s now showing
Absolutely beautifully shot portrait of the onset of dementia and the pressures of family obligation. The performances are realistic, relaxed and layered with complexity. I would have liked a little more in terms of plot and it's play on the lead characters arc in order to elevate this story from good to great. 3 stars
One of my top 10 films of 2012, it offers many parallels to Haneke's "Amour" and yet the two films are distinctly different. My full review is up at http://moviessansfrontiers.blogspot.in/2013/02/140-uruguayan-director-rodrigo-plas-la.html
Uruguay should be proud of this work. I am surprised this movie did not make the Oscar's foreign film shortlists, when it was Uruguay's official entry and won awards elsewhere.
