Ratings & Reviews

  1. Richmond Hill's rating of the film The Demons

The usual Franco soft-core dog's dinner here following the five-minute rule of regularly timed dollops of smutty nudity and torture, set to incongruous jazz music. Possibly a cash-in on Ken Russell's contemporaneous The Devils, these louche nuns also quickly forsake their vows and habits, if not their eye shadow. Tedious twaddle.

  2. Eric Rucker's rating of the film The Demons

Smart allegory of the coming of the post-Woodstock sexual revolution to Francoist Spain, and his enforcer church, as rock music is heard just over the horizon. Could almost be a feminist companion to Breillat's Bluebeard or Sleeping beauty. Could also have had Blackadder stroll into frame, or Zorro's cousin Bunny, or Mel Brooks as Torquemada. Superb casting! Art historically smart art direction and cinematography.

  3. turnerBroadcast p3Dr0's rating of the film The Demons

Scene: Torture chamber. "Admit it, It excites you" . " I'll admit, it's exciting. It's a lovely sight. " .... Then, four minutes later "Admit it, It excites you. " and the reply.. "I'll admit, it's exciting. It's a lovely sight". Anyone can make 200 productions if they brazenly reuse footage like that. Two stars for playing in a dungeon, but honestly kink quality is questionable. Count Olaf meets Traci Lords.

  4. tintinmugshot's rating of the film The Demons

Not fun, sexy or odd like Female Vampire. Absolutely terrible.

  5. Victor Gonzalez's rating of the film The Demons

Why do I like Jess Franco so much? The Spanish Roger Corman...

  6. David R Williams's rating of the film The Demons

Franco is more than an acquired taste. You really have to work at gaining an appreciation of his....art...there I said it.

  7. Collin's rating of the film The Demons

one star for necessity, one more for the soundtrack.

  8. mkdunwody's rating of the film The Demons

  9. msmichel's rating of the film The Demons

Effective chiller from Franco that tells the tale of two orphans in an convent suddenly persecuted by the local agents of the Inquisition and a vengeful lady of the manor. Franco's usual soft core moments are sprinkled throughout but unlike most of his oeuvre this one actually has a half decent plot to go along with it. A fine film for an October evening.

  10. Rebecca Ladds's rating of the film The Demons

The soundtrack alone takes it to another level.

  11. Brent Landon's rating of the film The Demons

I thought this was this one nunsploitation movie I saw years ago, but turns out it's a different one. Same director tho? Pretty sure...

  12. Stefan Drees's rating of the film The Demons

This 1970s stuff is hopelessly ridiculous! Figures with literary names (Renfield, Lady de Winter, de Quincy), funny torture or rape scenes with progressive rock/jazz/whatever soundtrack and and lot soft porn moments with boring elevator music - always the same scheme: the music is switched on and you know what happens next. Also nice: the view out of the window around 65' where you can see nasty modern buildings...
