Ratings & Reviews

  1. the_mentaculus's rating of the film The Egyptian

Inherently bizarre but - because of these flaws, uniquely arresting. Its most astonishing trait is how earnestly it jumps through several flaming hoops to make it fit into the then-vogue "Biblical Epic" subgenre.

  2. Daniel S.'s rating of the film The Egyptian

Seen in Blu-Ray. I don't think that this movie was a big hit at the box-office in 1954 because there's not a lot of action here. No, the movie is rather a very interesting, if not accurate, description of the reign of Akhenaton, the Pharaoh who, 1300 years before Christ, believed in a unique God and was a pacifist. The production design is sumptuous as well as Bella Darvi. A complete surprise. Strongly recommended.

  3. Brian O'blivion's rating of the film The Egyptian

Was there a single closeup in this movie? Everything seemed so distant and unimportant.

  4. Howard Fritzson's rating of the film The Egyptian

Bella Darvi, the international playgirl and gambler ladylove of Darryl Zanuck, is perfectly cast in this kitschfest. She brings an insiders understanding to the role of the wanton Nefer. Without her, the film would cease to be entertainment.

  5. Nebojsa's rating of the film The Egyptian

One star or five, it depends. I see it as a fine bad movie where everything is desperately trying to be epic. But I enjoy all that, especially Edmund Purdom's 'larger than life' lines, and colorful production design and costumes...

  6. AKFilmFan's rating of the film The Egyptian

While Curtiz's touch and the beautiful spectacle are great, the film is let down by a slow pace and the performance of Bella Darvi.
