Ratings & Reviews

  1. John Baldwin's rating of the film The Eternal Rainbow

This is an unusual view of a Japanese company town in the late 1950s. The paternalistic organization handles everything for their employees, literally from birth to death... but all is not well in paradise. The depiction of Yoshiko Kuga's final choice is (uncharacteristically for Kinoshita) unsentimental and realistic, and the loneliness of the characters is poignant. A very interesting slice of Japanese life.

  2. Illusion Travels By Streetcar's rating of the film The Eternal Rainbow

"There's never been any proof of that tradition actually existing."
