THE ETERNAL RETURN OF ANTONIS PARASKEVAS

Antonis arrives in a hotel near the sea. It is winter, the hotel is closed and Antonis wanders alone, with all the time in the world – until the television announces the disappearance of the famous journalist Antonis Paraskevas.

Contemporary Greek cinema has been showing a country and culture in crisis with a darkly droll, absurdist perspective, that’s led critics to dub this fresh crop of films as the “Greek Weird Wave.” Weird indeed: Eternal Return is an offbeat Berlinale gem with squirmingly satirical motives.
