While the tone of Patrick White's novel has been well captured here, the movie itself is disjointed despite stellar performances by the 3 leads: Charlotte Rampling, Judy Davis and Geoffrey Rush. The supporting cast is mostly excellent too notably Helen Morse and Colin Friels. It's a pity that Schepisi and Morris did not fully succeed in translating the novel into a cohesive movie.
Fatally dull drama about an aging matriarch (Charlotte Rampling) facing death surrounded by her family and staff. As death draws nearer, specters of the past rear their ugly heads. Meandering and lackluster, THE EYE OF THE STORM is a dramatically inert film that lacks narrative drive, despite fine performances.
