The Family traces events in the life of Carlo, from his christening in 1906 to his 80th birthday party. The film principally explores his relationships with younger brother Guilio, his wife Beatrice and her sister Adriana, whom Carlo loved as a young man.

re-rating. The specifically bourgeois comfort of a cinema that accumulates production values to narrate smoothly and without any doubts an exemplary history of anything, in this case, a family, with its properly typed and unquestioned roles and direction. A huge bummer.
